If You’re Not Hearing from God – Try Having a Cell-Fast

Romans 12:2
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Since the introduction of cell phones, the age of communication has reached a fever pitch of obsession! Everyone’s got a cell phone and we’re all using them constantly. Unfortunately, a huge downside to this technology is the lack of accountability in how we use them. With a significant increase in accidents. laws have been passed to prohibit people from talking/texting while driving. Behavioral issues such as cyberbullying, cyber gossip, and cybersex are also on the rise. Therefore, monitoring communication on cell phones has become increasingly apparent.

Of course, there are many benefits to having a cell phone. If your car breaks down or you have a medical emergency cell phones come in handy. Cell phones have also become an essential component of doing business. As this technology develops, our cell phones can do almost everything at the touch of a screen or a voice-activated command.

Other digital technologies and social platforms such as the Internet, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are also vying for our time and attention. They give us the ability to communicate with people all over the world. With a touch, we can talk/text/surf/play games/shop 24/7/365 from anywhere, at any time as long as we have service (can you hear me now?). Some of us responsibly use these new technologies, but regrettably, many of us don’t!

A Divine Revelation

Even as believers, the enemy has used these modern technologies to conform us to the things of the world and our relationship with God is suffering because of it. Sadly, we have allowed the massive amount of information via cyberspace to influence our beliefs/opinions and ultimately our actions more than God and His Word. Our relationships with others are also suffering. The use of social media and our cell phones can lead to impulsive and toxic interactions with others. We text things we would never say face-to-face with someone, and we judge our likeability on the volume of clicks we get on our social media platforms.

A Divine Challenge

Beloved, the act of renewing our mind needs our immediate attention. To do that, we need to tune into God’s still small voice while we tune out all the noise and distractions of the world.  So, if you haven’t heard from God lately, it may be time to have a Cell Fast

Call to Action

If we are serious about having our minds renewed and transformed by the Spirit, we need to take a Cell Fast regularly. This will give us time to chat with God, meditate on His Word, and spend time in His presence. How else will we know what His perfect and acceptable will is for our lives? So, if you want to reach God? Silence your cell phone and open up God’s Word!Father, help us “Seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness” and let the things of this world diminish in importance. Holy Spirit, help us look to You alone for truth, not social media, news, and worldly influences. Lord, teach us to be still and know that You are God. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen!
