Getting Out of God’s Way
Recently, I found myself taking on the financial burdens associated with ministry and as a result there was a whole lot of fretting going on. Like worry was going to somehow bring more money into my bank account. The only thing it did give me was more gray hair.
Spiritual dependency seems like such a novel concept and such wonderful advice for others. Trust God, the maker of heaven and earth. He’s big enough to handle our problems and he has plenty of resource to give us want we need.
Yet when I had to eat my own advice and trust God with what really was His anyway – my ministry. The words didn’t go down the same. They stuck in my craw and threatened my need to control. However, by worrying or by taking things upon myself in a futile attempt to control my situation, my pride and self-reliance caused me to sin and get in God’s way, literally blocking His blessings.
Ever feel that way? Where fretting seems so much easier than surrender. Where spinning in circles seems better than getting off the merry-go-round and trusting God.
Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all comprehension shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
