Written for All to See – How Would Your Life Read?

Whether you are reading the accounts of Jesus’ life through the eyes of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Or you fancy the Old Testament stories written about Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, and many others. The Bible is almost entirely composed of the biographies of past saints, their accomplishments, their failures, their trials and tribulations, but most importantly, their relationship with God through it all. If your life was selected as one to be written about and included amongst the pages of Scripture; how would your life read?
A Divine Revelation
Let’s look at the life of Abraham for a moment; the father of a nation, who left everything he knew to obey God and go to an unknown land, live in a tent, and father a child at 90 years of age. When he is called upon to sacrifice his only son on the altar, He willingly does so and trusts God to provide an alternative sacrifice or raise his son from the dead. Yet when it came to tight situations with his wife and foreign rulers; he lied to save his own skin and jeopardized the virtue of his wife. Would your life read like the life of Abraham?
Or let’s take Jacob, who through manipulation and deception, stole the blessing and birthright of his older brother Esau. Yet he was tenacious enough in his relationship with God to literally wrestle with the Lord for His blessing. Does this sound more like you?
Maybe your life would read like that of David, who killed bears, lions, and a 9-foot-tall giant in his youth. Yet when placed in a position as king of Israel, the lusts of his flesh lead to sexual addiction, adultery, and murder.
Then there’s David’s son Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived. As king of Israel, He too fell prey to the sexual addictions of his father and wed hundreds of foreign wives who lured him into idolatry. Would this fit your script?
Or maybe your life would read more like that of the disciples. Ordinary men, from various occupations, chosen by Jesus to be his constant companions. Who witnessed the miraculous on a daily basis. Yet were often referred to by Jesus, as men of little faith. In Christ’s darkest hour, all but one abandoned Him and Peter, one of His closest disciples, denied he even knew Him not once but three times.
A Divine Challenge
I could go on and on, but my point is this; if your life were chosen to be included in the pages of Scripture, what story would your life tell? If it were being written in black and write for all to see, would you live your life differently? Well, dear saint, your life is being read! Not only by God, but by everyone around you. Are you allowing God the privilege of writing the pages of your life, or do you control the pen?
Call to Action
Well, whoever is doing the writing will determine the quality of the reading. So, why not let God have the pen? The cool thing about having God author our stories is that He knows how to write our stories in such a way that everything works for our good and His glory, and it always has a happily-ever-after ending.
